Ralph Martin will read excerpts from his book "Papanoia"

In cooperation with the Bremen United States Center the Konrad Adenauer Foundation invites to a reading and a panel discussion with the US author Ralph Martin. Ralph Martin will read excerpts from his book "Papanoia" which was published in November 2011.

In his book Martin describes the situation of a father who lives in Berlin and has to take care for his little daughter Lulu while his wife is working as a full time TV journalist. The adult world at Prenzlauer Berg consists of many seemingly meaningful regulations. Starting with being obliged to shop organic food, ride only bicycle and ending with the fact that Lulu may not play with a Barbie doll at the kindergarden. We are reminded of "Political Correctness" and that children should follow adult behaviour. But Lulu doesn´t want to follow the rules of the adult world and collides with these well meant conventions.

After the author reading there will be a discussion with Ralph Martin, Sandra Ahrens(CDU), Birgitta von Lehn (inquired), author in the field of education and schooling, and Susanne Wendland (Bündins 90/Die Grünen)

Holmead – an American Expressionist in Europe

The American painter Clifford Holmead Phillips (1889 – 1975) always had the ideal to mediate between the old and the new world. He integrated tendencies of European art in his American tradition. Holmead married the photographer Elisabeth Fritze native of Bremen, who came back to her home town after her husbands death. Mrs. Phillips donated the greater part of her husbands work to the Bremen museum "Kunstsammlung Böttcherstraße".
